Did you know our mountain community now has nine community-accessible defibrillators? That includes one existing unit and eight new ones installed through this project.

The Community Defib Project is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to placing publicly accessible defibrillators in at-risk communities. Since early 2022, a small group of local women—affectionately known as the “Defib Divas”—has partnered with the organisation to identify suitable locations, raise funds, secure grants, and oversee the installation and ongoing monthly checks of eight new AEDs across Eastern Dorrigo.

What is an AED?

An AED (automated external defibrillator) is a life-saving device that anyone can use if a person experiences sudden cardiac arrest and is unconscious and not breathing. Without immediate access to a defibrillator, the chances of survival are very low. In fact, for every minute without defibrillation, a person’s chance of survival decreases by 7–10%.

Do you know what to do if you witness a sudden cardiac arrest and the person is unconscious and not breathing? Do you know where your nearest AED is located? Find out where the nearest AED is located from your home, and familiarise yourself with the locations:

In our community, the AEDs are stored in cabinets that are accessed via a PIN code.

The code for all the cabinets is 2450. This is written on the outside of the cabinet in case you forget.
